The University of Michigan’s Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IX Office provides support, resources and education to promote a safe and non-discriminatory learning, living and working environment for all members of the university community.

APA Guide to Bias-Free Language

The APA Style Guides to Bias-Free Language provides general guidelines for writing about people without bias across a range of topics and specific guidelines that address the individual characteristics of age, disability, gender, participation in research, racial and ethnic identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and intersectionality.

Sexual Assault Prevention & Awareness Center

SAPAC addresses sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, and sexual and gender-based harassment on campus in a multitude of ways. We offer prevention education for students, confidential support for survivors (students, faculty, and staff), and partnerships with other offices to offer trainings, programs, and innovative community engagement strategies that strive to collectively create a campus free from violence.

Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI)

OAMI supports and celebrates students’ unique experiences, backgrounds, communities, and identities. We collaborate with campus and external partners on programs and initiatives that aid students in achieving their academic ambitions while developing the skills and perspectives necessary to succeed in college and beyond. These initiatives assist U-M in its ongoing commitment to nurturing an intellectually and culturally diverse campus.

Center for Education of Women+ (CEW+)

CEW+ navigates circumstantial barriers by providing academic, financial, and professional support to help individuals reach their personal potential. Established to support women through higher education, CEW+ lifts up women and all underserved communities at the University of Michigan and beyond. Through career and education counseling, student funding, workshops, events, and a diverse and welcoming community, CEW+ exists to empower.

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS)

CAPS is committed to creating an environment based on its values of multicultural, multi-disciplinary and multi-theoretical practices that allow UofM’s student body to access care, receive high quality services, and take positive pathways to mental health. They are happy to offer both in-person and virtual services. 

Trotter Multicultural Center

Ongoing student activism at the University of Michigan has been a catalyst for faculty engagement in issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion..To build on the College of LSA’s existing efforts to address campus climate concerns, the University of Michigan established the Equitable Teaching website. This initiative provides innovative teaching methods and tools designed to enhance student success through equitable teaching practices.
